Safety and security films

Glazing is often the weakest point of a building, but Llumar® performance safety and security film is a cost-effective way to upgrade existing glass.

Produced in different thicknesses and constructions, the films can be specified to:

  • Upgrade glass to ensure a ‘safe break’ characteristic
  • Prevent injury by retaining broken glass
  • Provide bomb blast protection in the event of a terrorist attack
  • Deter or slow down an intruder or vandal
  • Hold glass in place in the event of spontaneous glass breakage of toughened glass

Spontaneous glass breakage
Toughened glass, and in particular overhead glazing, is at risk from spontaneous breakage due to nickel sulphide inclusions. The correct use of LLumar's® safety film and Frame/Lok edge retention system will hold the glass together and in position until the panel can be replaced. Click here to see a case study.

CPFilms is one of the first window film manufacturers to have their safety and security films impact tested to BS EN12600 (which supersedes BS 6206), and the films will aid compliance with a number of legal and statutory requirements for safety against human impact (for details, refer to the Llumar® Specifiers’ Guide).

Regulation 14 of the Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992
Reg 14 stipulates that your glazing must be ‘safe below waist height in windows and below shoulder height in doors’. One way to comply with the regulations is install safety glazing materials, such as normal window glass enhanced with Llumar® safety film.
